What it involves

In summary: many foot and ankle injuries have a biomechanical cause; if you do not correct it, the pain returns even if you treat it. The study with a pressure platform and 3D scanner finds WHAT is failing and allows it to be treated with data, not by chance.

Gait analysis analyzes how you distribute your weight when walking and running. Many foot and ankle injuries have a biomechanical cause: if we do not correct it, the pain returns even if we treat it.

With a pressure platform and gait analysis we identify what is failing and design the treatment —often insoles and exercise— based on data, not by chance.

When does it make sense to do a biomechanical gait study

When pain returns every time you go back: you stop, it improves, and upon resuming activity it reappears. It is the typical pattern of injuries with a mechanical cause, such as plantar fasciitis or Achilles tendinopathy.

It also makes sense without pain: runners who want to prevent before increasing kilometers, or families who consult for children’s flat feet and want to know if something needs to be done or if they simply need to monitor its evolution.

And always before any insole. An insole without a prior study is a gamble; with gait analysis beforehand, it is a treatment.

What exactly we analyze

The biomechanical gait study is not just standing on a platform. We start with the history: what activity you do, what footwear you wear, where it hurts and when.

Then we explore the foot and joints on the couch: mobility, strength, alignment. And finally we analyze the real gait: static and dynamic, walking — and running, if you are a runner — with a pressure platform and computerized gait analysis. The 3D scanner completes the picture with the exact shape of your foot.

The result is not a report full of colors to file away: it is a clear explanation of what is failing, why it hurts, and what can be done about it. You will leave the consultation understanding your foot, which is the first step to taking good care of it.

What happens after the study

With the data in hand, we propose a concrete plan. Sometimes they are custom insoles; other times, exercise, change of footwear, or training adjustments. Often, a combination of all of it.

If your case is sports-related, we coordinate the plan with the sports podiatry side to schedule loads and return to activity. And if the study shows that gait is not the problem, we tell you: the data serve precisely to avoid treating by chance.

The plan does not end with the first proposal. We re-evaluate the response after a while and adjust what is necessary, because gait changes with activity, weight, and age. We have been analyzing gait since 2005, in Martorell and Barcelona, with a very simple idea behind it: when treatment starts from a good biomechanical study, it is much easier for the improvement to be maintained over time.
